Teesas Education is an African-focused education transformation company that empowers learners, educators, and institutions with cutting-edge digital solutions.
The Challenge
Teesas Education launched in August 2021 as a culturally relevant, curriculum-aligned learning app for African children. However, the real ambition was even bigger: to evolve into an impact-driven education transformation company, serving not just families, but also schools and governments. The challenge was how to create awareness and build credibility among critical stakeholder groups.
Brand Spark’s Entry Point
In December 2021, Teesas engaged Brand Spark to lead its communications strategy. As our pioneer client, Teesas became the blueprint for how we help brands scale from startup to sector leader.
Phase 1: Launch and Consumer Growth
Brand Spark’s Contributions
- Narrative Development: Positioned Teesas as a values-driven EdTech brand focused on foundational learning, local languages, and gamified content.
- Celebrity PR: Secured national coverage for the signing of Mercy Johnson Okojie as brand ambassador, amplifying brand trust and relatability.
- Investor Visibility: Amplified Teesas’ $1.6M pre-seed round backed by Tolaram Group, with coverage in Tech Crunch, which was picked up by over 30 national and international media outlets, including BusinessDay, Nairametrics, and MSME Africa.
- Thought Leadership: Positioned founder Osayi Izedonmwen as a visionary voice in African education reform.
Phase 2: Strategic Evolution including B2B & B2G Offerings
B2B: Leadership in Schools
Teesas entered an exclusive partnership with FranklinCovey Education, becoming the first African EdTech to deliver the globally acclaimed Leader in Me program at scale.
Brand Spark’s Amplification
- Messaging Strategy: Reframe Teesas from a ‘learning app’ to an education technology company committed to whole-child development.
- Media Coverage: Secured features in TechEconomy.ng, Nairametrics, and Guardian Nigeria spotlighting the Principal Academy and Leadership Boot Camps.
- Thought Leadership: Positioned Teesas as a pioneer in integrating social-emotional learning with schools’ curriculum.
This amplified Teesas’ credibility with school administrators, educators, and parents, unlocking new B2B adoption across private institutions.
B2G: Government Partnerships
Teesas Education expanded into government partnerships, deploying Education Management Systems (EMS) to digitise public school operations, improve efficiency and learning outcomes.
Brand Spark’s Amplification
- Strategic Messaging: Framed Teesas’ EMS as a scalable, offline-capable solution for public education reform.
- Press Coverage: Orchestrated media features in media such as BusinessDay, highlighting Teesas’ work with the Ondo State Government.
- Impact Storytelling: Highlighted how Teesas enables real-time tracking of teacher attendance, student performance, and lesson delivery, even in low-connectivity regions.
This positioned Teesas as a national infrastructure partner, trusted by sub-national governments and development finance institutions.
Phase 3: Tackling UTME and WAEC Failure Rates with Teesas Matric
In response to Nigeria’s persistently high failure rates in UTME and WAEC, Teesas launched Matric—a dedicated e-learning solution designed to radically improve student outcomes. Teesas also opened hybrid learning centres in Lekki and Ikeja, Lagos, offering real-time computer-based testing (CBT) simulations and mock trials. In its 2024 pilot, Teesas Matric achieved a 97% pass rate, validating its effectiveness and prompting full rollout ahead of the 2025 UTME season.
Brand Spark’s Amplification
- Media Strategy: Positioned Matric as a national intervention tool, not just another exam prep solution.
- Press Coverage: Secured features in TechEconomy.ng, BusinessDay, and ThisDay, spotlighting the platform’s scale and results.
- Founder Visibility: Elevated Osayi Izedonmwen’s voice as a reformer tackling systemic education challenges.
- Impact Storytelling: Highlighted the 97% pass rate and hybrid model to build trust with parents, educators, and policymakers.
- Campaign Support: Developed messaging for Matric’s subscription plans and learning centre offerings
